Keeping Energy Moving: Our Team’s Hard Work in North Carolina

Most of the time, our folks are in the office or the shop, doing the day-to-day work that keeps projects moving forward. But sometimes, we’re invited to follow a job into the field- helping bring a project across the finish line and ready for start-up.

This summer, several of our team members spent 11 weeks in North Carolina at one of the nation’s key energy terminal facilities. Operated by one of the largest refined products pipeline systems in the country, this terminal helps move more than 100 million gallons of fuel every day. With a tank capacity of 125,000 barrels (over 5 million gallons), it plays a critical role in keeping communities, commerce, travelers, and even military installations supplied.

Our crew’s work went well beyond the typical. In addition to finalizing panels, racks, and field cable terminations- even climbing to the tops of spheres when needed- they also tackled critical documentation and testing efforts. This included redlining discrepancies in existing drawings, creating supplemental field sketches to capture equipment details, and adding labels and wire tags across PLCs and junction boxes. They worked side-by-side with programmers to test equipment, confirm modules were activating correctly, and make adjustments to wiring and documentation where necessary.

It was a true team effort, and our crew’s dedication showed in every part of the project. Along the way, they had a great experience working with representatives on site, who were helpful and collaborative throughout.

For our team, it was both an honor and a commitment to be part of such an impactful project. Eleven weeks away from the routine is no small thing, and their hard work is a reminder of the professionalism they bring to every job- whether in the shop or out in the field.
